What happened on Eid in Bangladesh that more than 100 people were in danger, reach hospitals

More than 100 people, including children, became seriously ill after eating contaminated street food at a fair organized on the occasion of Eid in Bangladesh. After this incident, concerns about the decline in food security standards in the country have increased.

95 Sick people were admitted to Abhayanagar Deputy District of Jessore. At the same time, 10 was sent to the Medical College Hospital in critical condition. According to the local media report, the street food vendor is absconding since the incident.

A patient told the major daily ‘Prothom Alo’, "We all became ill after returning home at night. We were admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning." Duty doctor Raghuram Chandra said that this situation is due to bacteria in food. Most patients experienced abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea and fever.

A victim family member said, "My whole family went to the Eid fair on Monday night and ate ‘Fuchka’ from that shop. After coming home at night, everyone became ill. I did not eat ‘Fuchka’ and survived. I admitted everyone to the hospital the same night. Four of those who fell ill were critical, so I admitted him to Khulna Medical College Hospital."

After the news of the incident, the police is searching for the splitter. Abdul Alim, officer in charge of Abhay Nagar Police Station, said, "We have come to know about the incident. We are looking for a businessman."

This incident has raised concerns about food security standards in Bangladesh. Recently, local media said that the increasing demand for inferior products in the country has become a matter of serious concern in Bangladesh.

The interim government intervention due to the absence of Mohammad Yunus has given rise to the increasing practice of selling inferior products for additional benefits.

According to a report by the country’s major newspaper, ‘The Daily Star’, Bangladesh’s food security situation was described in many studies. It has detected harmful chemicals in vegetables, fruits, fish, poultry, milk and other foods, which remains quite worrisome.
