A curious netizen recently wondered about the Hindi translation of the word Railway Platform.
Railway platforms are a vital part of train travel and are important for passengers as they board and disembark trains here. The length of a railway platform can vary greatly, from a single bench to the world’s longest platform at Hubballi Junction in India, which is 1,507 meters long. Recently, a user at Quora posted his query on this social interactive regarding the Hindi translation of the word Railway Platform.
The user asked- “What is the railway platform called in pure Hindi? (Translation: Railway Platform in Hindi)”. Millions of people travel by train and many wonder about the same during their hectic and long journeys. To this, many users responded in their own way. A user named Meera Thakur wrote- “Railway platform can be called ‘Loh Pathgamini Viram Sthal’ in Hindi which no one uses due to difficulty, so most of the people call it railway platform in Hindi.”
Another user named Pratibha Kumari said- “Lohpathgamini Viram Bindu”. A user named Manjula Saxena said- “Lohpathgamini Aagaman Viram Sthal is the Hindi translation of Railway Platforms.”
Many users answered the question and it’s now it’s up to the users to decide the correct among them. However, Hindi experts and professors say that it is wrong to translate those English words into Hindi which has become a part of the commonly spoken Hindi language. The words were actually from other languages but when they came into Hindi, they became Hindi itself, that is why there was no need to translate them, they were incorporated into Hindi just like that. Words like cricket, cigarette, rickshaw, bucket etc. are foreign words which are used in Hindi. Railway platforms can also refer to freight platforms used to load and unload freight to and from rail cars.
