New Zealand’s High Commissioner Phil Goff in the UK questioned Finance Minister of Finland Elina Waltonon during a panel discussion at Chautham House in London. He compared Trump to Churchill, citing the 1938 speech by Britain Prime Minister Winston Churchill during World War II.

Goff said during the discussion, “President Trump has put back the Churchill’s statue in the Oval Office. But do you think he really understands history?” Goff’s statement questioned US President Donald Trump’s understanding of history, which led to this controversy.

External Affairs Minister Winston Peters also said that it is not right for Goff to remain as High Commissioner in London after such comments on Trump.
