West Indies squad for England, Ireland T20Is: Holder, Russell named in Hope’s first assignment as T20 skipper; Pooran rested

West Indies has recalled Jason Holder and Andre Russell to its 15-member T20I squad to face England in Shai Hope’s first assignment as T20 skipper.

After suffering a 3-0 whitewash in the ODI series, West Indies faces England in three T20Is starting from Friday, before heading to Ireland for another three-match T20I series, with some playing and coaching staff, including Russell, opting out from that leg.

Holder last played T20Is for his country in February 2024, having been forced to miss the World Cup later in the year through injury. Russell’s most recent appearance came against England in Barbados in November, when he suffered an ankle problem that kept him out of the rest of the series.

The England series will be West Indies’ first since Hope replaced Rovman Powell as T20I captain. Powell, who oversaw a 0-3 defeat at home to Bangladesh in his final series in charge, retained his spot in the squad.

New Test captain Roston Chase will also depart after the England series to return to the Caribbean ahead of Australia’s tour. Jyd Goolie earns his maiden call-up to the senior team after an impressive domestic season in Chase’s place.
