‘We will not buy’, PAK gave a big shock to China, said this about J-35 fighter jet

Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khwaja Asif has rejected the news of buying China’s advanced J-35A Stealth Fighter Jet. In an interview, he described these reports as the speculation of the media, which aim only to promote China’s defense deals.

In June 2025, Bloomberg and other international media institutions claimed that Pakistan is going to become the first foreign customer of J-35A Stealth Fighter Jet developed by China. The aircraft is a fifth-generation stealth jet manufactured by China’s Shenyang Aircraft Corporation, which is equipped with modern technology and radar-distinguishing capacity. After these reports, the shares of Avic Shenyang Aircraft Corporation had a sudden jump of 10 percent.

What did Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khwaja Asif say?

In an interview given to Arab News, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khwaja Asif clearly said, “We are not buying them.” He dismissed the news going on in the media outright, saying, “I think it’s just a matter of media. It is a good publicity for Chinese defense sales.”

What was the claim?

Recently, many international media reports including Bloomberg claimed that Pakistan is going to become the first foreign country to buy Advanced J-35A Stealth Fighter Jets of China. It was also told that these aircraft have been equipped with PL-17 long-range air-to-air missiles and Pakistan can get their delivery by August 2025.

It was also said in the reports that Pakistan’s pilots are being trained in China. Work on field readyness of about 30–40 aircraft has been completed. China is ready to give 50% discount on a deal of these aircraft.

Why does Pakistan not want to buy J-35 from China?

1. In May, the situation remains sensitive after clashes and air strikes on the border between India and Pakistan. In such a situation, confirmation of purchasing a stealth fighter aircraft from China will be considered directly for India. This can speed up arms race in South Asia. Also, diplomatic tension with India may increase further.

2. Pakistan is currently under strict economic supervision of IMF. In such a situation, the matter of buying billions of dollars fighter jets can raise questions on its financial discipline. By rejecting public public, Pakistan wants to show that it is adopting the responsible economic policy. This will also keep international support.

3. Many analysts believe that it was a well-planned trick of China, in which J-35A was promoted internationally by calling Pakistan a buyer through the media. In this way, there was an attempt to attract countries like Egypt, Algeria. At the same time, there is no official confirmation or denial from China.
