In a shocking incident making rounds on the internet, a video shows a group of men brutally assaulting a woman and her minor daughter on the streets of Sardar Market in Gujarat’s Surat. Said to have taken place on Thursday, the video shows the woman and her daughter being pulled by their hair, dragged on the road, punched, and even beaten with sticks, with passersby standing as mute spectators. One of the attackers, who appears to be a security guard, could also be seen bleeding from his forehead as he comes forward, holding a stick in his hand. He walked toward the woman and dragged her violently by her hair. Around the same time, two other men continued assaulting the girl, pushing her to the ground and kicking her in the stomach.

As per reports, they were following instructions from vegetable sellers who usually sell these discarded vegetables at low prices to small food stalls and didn’t want others to take them for free. After a video of the incident spread online, a complaint was filed at the Puna Police Station. The two guards, named Anil Tiwari and Adityasingh Rajeshsingh, were later arrested.

As per Times of India reports, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Alok Kumar said, “The assault in the viral video occurred on April 6, Sunday, when the woman, her husband and daughter entered the market to steal vegetables. An altercation took place between them and the guards. The security guards then beat the women as shown in the video. Both guards were allegedly assaulted by the husband of the woman. We will act against both as they took the law into their own hands.”
In the complaint filed by Soni Chauhan, she visited Sardar Market with her husband on Sunday afternoon to get some vegetables. There, she met her daughter Anjali and a few other family members. After gathering some leftover vegetables, Soni was standing near Shop 40 when Anil Tiwari and Adityasingh Rajeshsingh approached her. They allegedly threatened her and told her to leave the place or else they warned them that they’d kill her and her husband, Chandresh if they didn’t move. Soni also claimed that Tiwari slapped Chandresh several times during the incident.
