Businessman Vijay Mallya, the former chief of Kingfisher Airlines, has been hogging headlines over the past few days since his four-hour-long podcast with Raj Shamani. Portraying himself as a victim of the legal system and all the ongoing investigations against him, Mallya made several bold claims, even stating that he has already paid more than Rs 14,000 crore against loans worth Rs 6,200. It is worth mentioning that Vijay Mallya—the name that was once synonymous with a life of luxury and indulgence—saw his empire collapse so dramatically that he even fled from India.

While Mallya’s recent conversation with YouTuber Raj Shamani appears to be an attempt to whitewash his image and prove his innocence, it is the only interview that has generated buzz. In the wake of Mallya’s now-viral podcast, clips from his old appearance on Rajat Sharma’s Aap Ki Adalat have also surfaced online.

In one such clip, the journalist was seen taking a jibe at Mallya’s luxuries, including travelling to foreign locations, keeping horses, indulging in races, and leading a high-maintenance lifestyle. As he mocked Mallya’s claims about working very hard, the businessman explained that he has to earn money to fulfil his luxuries. In an instant, Rajat Sharma pointed out Mallya’s generational wealth and even joked that the businessman is never seen working. The video was posted with a sarcastic caption that read, “Vijay Mallya podcast before podcasts were even born.”

The discussion further moved toward the inclusion of bikini-clad models for the photoshoot of Kingfisher Airlines, resulting in even more hilarious reactions. Social media users wasted no time in dropping their responses to the video. One wrote, “Roasting Version of Rajat sir,” while another added, “Thug life.” A user jokingly wrote, “This was a different version of Shree Vijay Mallya.” On the other hand, a section of users were seen advocating for the businessman, stating that he worked hard to build his empire and increase his father’s fortune.

Coming back to Vijay Mallya’s viral podcast, he addressed various aspects of his life, from the collapse of his airline to his departure from India. Mallya also touched upon being called a “chor.” The businessman left the country in 2016 and has been living in the UK since then. Following his podcast’s popularity, which has crossed millions of views on YouTube, Mallya did not forget to express his gratitude on social media. “To say that I am humbled and overwhelmed is well short of what I truly feel,” he wrote.

The podcast marks one of Mallya’s first extensive public appearances, where he presented his side of the story.
