When it comes to solving problems in the most unexpected and clever ways, nobody does it quite like Indians. Whether it’s fixing a broken fan with a rubber band or repurposing everyday items for something entirely new, desi jugaad (innovation) shines through in the most fascinating ways. And at the world’s largest spiritual gathering, the Maha Kumbh, this resourcefulness has never been more evident.

With millions of devotees descending upon the sacred grounds of the Maha Kumbh, the challenge of keeping families together, especially those with young children, becomes all too real. In such an overwhelming sea of people, the possibility of children getting separated from their parents increases dramatically.

But leave it to desi creativity to come to the rescue.

A viral Instagram video has revealed an ingenious way that parents are ensuring their little ones stay safe. In the clip, children are seen walking through the crowded grounds, each sporting a simple sheet of paper pinned to their backs. Written on these sheets are important details: the child’s address and contact information, vital in the unfortunate event they get lost.

It’s an approach that’s getting praise from across social media for its sheer simplicity and brilliance. Amid the high-tech gadgets and GPS trackers that promise safety, this humble handwritten note is a low-cost, effective and foolproof backup to navigate the bustling crowds of Maha Kumbh.

This clever hack has been dubbed a fresh take on desi jugaad, with many social media users applauding its practicality. Some even jokingly added that such a solution should never leave the country. “Indian has very talented and innovative people,” commented a viewer. “Should have stuck a copy of their Aadhaar cards on the back,” suggested another one.

The 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela, underway since January 13, is the largest religious gathering on Earth and has been lighting up social media with discussions. The festival will continue until February 26, with five important ‘Amrit Snans’ scheduled. The first, marking Makar Sankranti, took place on January 14. The next was on January 29, in observance of Mauni Amavasya, followed by February 3 for Basant Panchami, February 12 for Maghi Purnima and finally, the last Amrit Snan on February 26, coinciding with Maha Shivratri.
