The picture of Himanshi, sitting beside Vinay’s body in Pahalgam, has become the image of the tragedy.
The couple’s last video from their honeymoon is going viral on the Internet.
On Wednesday, Himanshi bid a tearful goodbye to Vinay as his last rites were held in Karnal, his home town. “I hope his soul rests in peace. He lived a good life. He made us really proud, and we should keep this pride in every way,” she said while bidding an emotional farewell to her husband after his mortal remains were brought to Delhi’s IGI Airport.
‘They Wanted To Go To Switzerland, But…’
Lieutenant Vinay Narwal and His Wife Himanshi did not plan to go to Jammu and Kashmir for their honeymoon. The newlyweds aimed to visit Switzerland, but their visa was rejected, leading them to Pahalgam instead, Vinay’s grandfather said.
“Getting leave for the Switzerland trip was not a big issue, but they had to change their plans due to the visa refusal,” Vinay’s grandfather Hawa Singh mentioned. Vinay would still have been with them if only he had received the Swiss visa, he added.
Vinay Narwal and his wife Himanshi were having snacks when terrorists attacked the Baisaran Valley, also known as ‘mini Switzerland’, and shot Vinay dead. In a video widely shared on social media, Himanshi is heard telling locals that a man had shot her husband. “I was eating bhelpuri and my husband was standing beside me. A man came and shot him. The man said he (Vinay) was not a Muslim and shot him,” Himanshi is heard saying in the video.
