The plane ended up circling the Puerto Rican airport four times, making several landing attempts on different runways.

A Frontier Airlines flight experienced chaos after the plane caught fire and lost one of its wheels during a hard landing. The incident occurred on April 15 as an Airbus 321-271NX model powered by PW1133G engines, carrying 230 passengers on board, was departing to San Juan (SJU) from Orlando (MCO). The flight suffered a malfunction to its left engine (Number 1/port side) during the first landing attempt, after which one of the wheels tore off the Airbus A321.

Passengers aboard experienced moments of panic after seeing the engine spitting flames from the exhaust. The moments were captured on camera by scary flyers. In the clip, there were glimpses of smoke and a fiery glow appearing from beneath the aircraft. The video also captured frightened voices, especially those of crying children, echoing through the cabin as the supposed fire grew bigger.

In a video shared by Facebook user Melani Gonzalez Wharton, who was flying back home after a vacation with her family, we can see the view outside the window, the scared passengers and streaks of smoke under the plane. “We were landing, and the landing was very bad, aggressive and at a high speed; this caused one of the tyres on the front of the plane to break and catch fire. For a few minutes, I thought it was the end of our story here on earth,” she said in her post.

According to flight radar site FlightAware, the plane ended up circling the Puerto Rican airport four times, making several landing attempts on a different runway. The Frontier Airlines flight 3506 came 500 feet to the runway but flew by again before finally landing safely at 10:54 PM on April 15.

Photos shared on social media showed the Airbus A321-271NX aircraft (N607FR) broke away the nose landing gear left wheel from the axle, engine exhaust started spitting flames, ingested debris from the incident, did a go-around, and followed by a safe landing.

The pilot reportedly attempted an initial landing on runway 10-28 at San Juan (SJU) but allegedly touched down too hard, causing the aircraft to suffer mechanical damage. This led to the closure of that runway as debris fell to the ground.
