
Aikeyme Exercise: For the first time to counter China’s growing influence in African countries associated with the Indian Ocean, the Indian Navy is going to perform a shared maritime war with ten countries. Between Sunday to six-day (April 13-18), this exercise named ‘Acqui’ is going to host a commonly host with the Indian Navy, Tanzania. Minister of State for Defense Sanjay Seth and Naval Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, the capital of Tanzania, have left for Dar-A-As-Salam to attend the inauguration ceremony of exercise.
Unity through ‘Acqui’ exercise with African countries
The Indian Navy is using Acqui i.e. Africa India’s Maritime Engagement (AIKEYME) for maritime security with African countries. Sanskrit word Ackemi means unity. Apart from the navies of India and Tanzania, the exercise will participate in Komoros, Djibouti, Irritria, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles and South Africa. The special thing is that China has established its first foreign naval base in Djibouti. In Djibouti, China is followed by America, the second country whose Navy has built its base.
Indian Navy’s warship INS Chennai (Destroer) and INS Kesari (Landing Ship Tank) have reached Dar as Salam to participate in AKMA exercise. The first edition of Aemi includes those countries in West Africa whose banks are adjacent to the Indian Ocean. In this exercise to be held once in two years, an attempt will be made to include the navies of the entire Africa continent in the next editions.
Indian Ocean adjacent to Africa suffering from sea-dusk and smuggling
The Indian Ocean region adjacent to Africa has been suffering from piracy. In such a situation, sea-trade between Asia, Africa and Europe is interrupted. Along with this, activities like drugs and weapons smuggling and illegal fishing are also seen. During the Ackeymi exercise, the Harbor stage will include tabletops and command post exercises on sharing piracy and information. There will also be training on Semenship and Visit Board Search and Caesar (VBSS).
The marine phase includes the marginship evolution, search and rescue, VBSS, small arms firing and helicopter operations. Admiral Tripathi’s visit conforms to the approach to strengthening strategic relations in India’s Indian Ocean region and PM Modi’s approach to Global South. Admiral Dinesh’s Tripathi’s visit to Tanzania is an important step to strengthen bilateral relations between India and Tanzania and promote regional security.
African countries with PM Modi’s ocean policy
Prime Minister during recent visit to Mauritius Narendra Modi Has announced a mutual and holistic adventry for security and growth across the ‘Ocean’ policy, under which India will work closely with the associate countries for the safety and development of the countries of the Indian Ocean.
