While most people still see robotic technology as something from the future, in San Antonio, Texas, it seems the future has already arrived. A video of a mechanical dog being walked on a leash at a local mall has gone viral, sparking both fascination and unease.
Shared by the San Antonio Lifestyle TikTok page, the video was captured around 9 p.m. at the Rivercenter Mall. It shows a person casually walking a dog-like robot past storefronts as stunned shoppers stop and stare. The TikToker behind the camera can be heard expressing disbelief as the robotic pet moves eerily through the mall.
According to a report by Mysa, the robot briefly stopped, appearing to stomp or hesitate before being guided forward again. The user also claimed the machine emitted “dog noises”, likely part of its AI programming designed to mimic lifelike behaviour.
The strange sight has since stirred widespread curiosity online, with many viewers calling it both impressive and unsettling.

However, viewers were divided. While some marvelled at the technology, others found it downright unsettling, and some even suggested they would run away after seeing a robot pet. Meanwhile, some viewers began speculating about the make of the pet.
Although the exact make was not confirmed, many believed it resembled the Unitree Go2, a sleek, quadruped robot which is known for its agility and AI capabilities. The Go2 is fitted with 12 knee-joint motors, a front-facing camera, and even a headlamp.
Reportedly, the developers, speaking about the robot, said that it can execute a range of dog-like behaviours like sitting, shaking paws, jumping, and pouncing. Retailing at around $2,800 for the basic model (not including controller or tax), the robot is marketed for everything from entertainment to advanced tech experiments.
