The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years has made it easier to manipulate images and videos. Some filmmakers even believe that AI might take over filmmaking. But India was ahead of the time long before this technology gained global attention. A recently circulating clip from the 1985 film Zulm Ka Badla features a moment where the lead actress’ picture changes almost instantly. The scene involves a conversation between Rakesh Roshan and Jagdish Raj’s characters, Inspector Anil Verma and DIG Verma. In this moment, the DIG adds a twist to the plot, by exposing the dual identity of Anita Raj’s character, Geeta Verma, who is also known as Mrs D’Sa.

The scene has caught the attention of social media users for humorously showing how early Indian cinema used technology smartly. Directed by K Prasad, the film tells the story of DIG Verma, who adopts Geeta, the daughter of his late friend. After growing up, she marries Anil, Verma’s son. However, when a gangster Anil is found dead, both the father and son believe that Geeta may be involved. The clip’s surprising visual effects, especially the changing picture after the DIG rubs it with a simple cloth, have sparked amusing responses. Sharing the clip on Instagram, the page wrote, “Photoshop in those days.”

Many in the comments section wondered how the filmmakers were able to shoot such scenes back in the 80s. Others made fun of the scene with their witty and hilarious responses.

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “No need for PC and Software. The only need is cotton cloth.”

Another shared, “It’s just a movie trick, very hard to do that in real life with hands.”

“Daddu used sand paper to remove her head scarf,” a comment read.

Another jokingly asked, “Pose kaise badal gaya (How did the pose change)?”

An individual shared, “Ye technology Hindustan se bahar nahi jaani chahiye (This technology should not go outside India).”

One more added, “AI is in danger.”

Released in 1985, other than Rakesh Roshan, Jagdish Raj and Anita Raj, Zulm Ka Badla features talented Bollywood stars, including Danny Denzongpa, Shakti Kapoor, Neelam Mehra, Chandrashekhar, Dinesh Hingoo, Manik Irani and Jagdeep.
