It is often said that love knows no bounds. In today’s interconnected world, individuals frequently venture beyond their homelands to unite with their beloved. However, not all journeys culminate in a fairytale ending. One such case captivated widespread attention.

A 33-year-old American woman embarked on a journey to Pakistan to marry a 19-year-old Pakistani boy. Upon arrival, she faced disappointment and turmoil, and ultimately ended up at a mental health facility.

Oniza Andrew Robinson, 32, developed an online romance with 19-year-old Nidal Ahmed Menon from Pakistan. Their virtual connection deepened to the extent that Robinson decided to fly from New York to Karachi, Pakistan, to marry Menon.

Upon her arrival in Karachi in October 2024, Menon’s family opposed the marriage. Allegations surfaced that Robinson had misled Menon by using filters on her photos to conceal her ethnicity.

Robinson staged a protest outside Menon’s residence. Zafar Abbas, a Pakistani activist and YouTuber, shared the incident on social media, sparking widespread outrage. The Governor of Sindh province, Kamran Khan Tessori, felt compelled to intervene, offering Robinson a return ticket to the US at his own expense.

However, Robinson declined the offer of assistance and instead held a press conference to express her grievances and outline her demands. She insisted on a weekly allowance of $3,000 from Menon and demanded Pakistani citizenship.

Moreover, she declared her intention to relocate to Dubai with Menon after marriage to start a family. Her pronouncements did not end there; she also demanded one million dollars from the Pakistani government.

In an unexpected turn of events, Robinson’s son, Jeremiah Andrew Robinson, who is based in the US, shared that his mother had existing mental health challenges and suffered from bipolar disorder.

Consequently, Robinson was admitted to the psychiatry department of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in Karachi. Arrangements are currently underway for her repatriation to the US.
