A US woman said the taste and quality of Indian milk was better than that of American brands.
In an Instagram video, Kristen Fischer, who lives in India, explained how the milk here was different from the varieties available in the US.
Fischer said, “It wasn’t until I moved to India that I realised something like milk can differ between countries.”
She added that she was also shocked to learn that more than 25 per cent of the world’s milk consumption occurred in India.
Fischer praised the local milk’s flavour, saying, “I love milk in India, I always thought it was better here.”
“However, it occurred to me that the cream content in the milk is much higher in India,” she added.
Fischer listed the types of milk available in America and stated that the most popular variants were full (around 3.5 per cent), skimmed (fat-free), 1 per cent, and 2 per cent. Indian milk, on the other hand, is often richer and creamier.
“Double-toned milk has about 1 per cent fat, toned milk has 3 per cent, standardised milk comes with around 4.5 per cent fat, and full cream milk goes up to 6 per cent,” she added.
“I love creamy milk as much as the next person. However, people in America tend to prefer low-fat options over rich taste,” Fischer said in the video.
She believed India had an advantage in this area. “They know how to make a good Chai or dessert with high cream content to maximise the taste of their food,” she continued in the caption.
“This is where India is superior,” Fischer said.
She explained that there were more types of milk, other than what she listed. “I just wanted to simplify the comparison with the most common ones,” Fischer said.
Online users expressed their opinions in the comment section.
One user commented, “Nice and clear. Thanks for laying out the differences in those milk categories.”
“Consuming Milk is indeed a very important part of almost every Indian’s daily life! Also used in many forms like dahi, paneer, etc.,” a second comment read.
“The main difference is that cows in the US can be fed animal protein. Whereas in India that’s not permitted (there’s a green dot),” another explained.
Kristen Fischer and her spouse relocated to India in 2021, and she has since been posting glimpses of her everyday life and cultural viewpoints on social media.
