Ravi Shastri received the Audi 100 as the Player of the Tournament award for his performance in the Benson & Hedges World Championship of Cricket in 1985.

Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri reunited with his iconic Audi 100 at the Raymond Auto Fest in Thane. The vintage car, refurbished by the Super Car Club Garage, was on display at the event organised by Gautam Singhania to celebrate the centenary of Raymond group. Shastri’s bond with Audi 100 dates back to 1985 when he received it as the Player of the Tournament award for his performance in the Benson & Hedges World Championship of Cricket.
After India beat Pakistan in the final, Shastri, accompanied by some of his teammates, drove the car around the Melbourne Cricket Ground outfield. The ex-India coach was elated to have the opportunity to ride his beloved Audi 100 once again at the Raymond Auto Fest. He also expressed his gratitude to Gautam Singhania and his Super Car Club Garage for restoring the treasured vehicle in 2022.
“India’s Audi– my baby after 25 years. Thrilled to drive it at the Raymond Auto Fest, thanks to Gautam Singhania’s incredible initiative to restore India’s vintage gems. Unbelievable how it still shines like it did 40 years ago when India won it,” Ravi Shastri shared on X (formerly Twitter).
The post also featured some images of the Audi 100. It was one of the first luxurious vehicles by the German automaker to arrive in the Indian subcontinent. Despite it being an individual accolade, Shastri has always recognised his Audi as a reward for the entire team’s success. The Indian players sat on the hood, tank and even on the top of the car when Shastri drove it for the first time at the MCG.
Apart from India and Pakistan, other top teams like Australia, England, West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka competed at the 1985 Benson & Hedges World Championship of Cricket. Shastri scored 182 runs in the tournament and picked eight wickets.
Meanwhile, Gautam Singhania, an avid auto enthusiast, has been running the Super Car Club Garage of vintage and luxurious cars since 2020. Besides Shastri’s Audi, nearly 500 premium automobiles including four-wheelers and motorcycles, were displayed at the Auto Fest. The three-day event is claimed to be one of the biggest car shows ever held in India.
