A woman from the United Kingdom became a bestselling author after her social media post went viral with over 24.8 million views.

Social media is so much powerful that it can transform our lives in the blink of an eye and an author from the United Kingdom is a prime example of this. Vicky Ball, an aspiring author, sold just two books at an event but shared a heartfelt post on X (formerly known as Twitter) expressing her gratitude. That simple post went viral and propelled her to the top of the Amazon bestseller charts.
“Sold two books,” wrote the 48-year-old while sharing a picture of herself with her novels at an event in Chelmsford, Essex. One book, Powerless, is a thrilling mystery about a missing girl who returns home, while the other, Abandoned, delves into the dark secret of an alcoholic mother.
Thanks to the viral post, Powerless, was among Amazon’s teen and young adult fiction chart.
Ball, who works at the University of Essex, spoke about how she usually faces events where she doesn’t sell any books. “I sold two books, which I was really happy about because sometimes I’ve had book events where I don’t sell any,” she told the BBC.
She went on to say, “So, I just posted it on X and thought nothing of it and left it. But then a few days later I woke up and checked my phone and it was going a bit crazy.”
Ball, who has a passion for “creating new stories”, finished her first novel during lockdown and eventually landed a small publishing deal. “I was completely surprised really and it was all a bit overwhelming – I was just amazed and couldn’t believe it,” she further expressed.
While reacting to the viral social media post that has clocked over 24.8 million views, an individual wrote, “It’s a beginning. And timing is everything! Congratulations!”
“Which one should I read first? I wanna try it, looks interesting,” commented another. To this, Ball replied, “I would start with Powerless. They are not related but it’s a good place to start.”
A third shared, “That’s two more than most people have ever sold. Congrats!”
