A scion of the 1500-year-old House of Mewar in Udaipur, Lakshyaraj Singh, set a world record by using 2,203 solar-powered lamps. He and his team are shown creating a massive display of the Sun in a video released by Guinness World Records (GWR).
“Largest display of solar powered lamps, 2,203 by Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar,” says the GWR caption that was uploaded with the video.
People can be seen setting up solar lamps in a specific pattern in the video. As the video goes on, it becomes evident that it is a motif of the Sun, with the Hindi words “Sunrise” inscribed beneath it.
The GWR report states that the record “was organised to promote and highlight the importance of solar-powered lamps in today’s world and the positive impact they can have on the environment.”
Additionally, the organisation stated in the comments section of the video, “The solar lantern display, which includes the word ‘sunrise’, was created to raise awareness of the importance of solar-powered lamps and the positive impact they can have on the environment and for disadvantaged people in India.”

It’s a pleasure to announce one’s 9th Guinness World Record in social causes for the largest display of solar-powered lamps in the shape of the Sun.”
“These will be distributed to illuminate the homes of those who live in darkness and need it most. Symbolising hope and empowerment for communities through one’s vision of the greatest good for the greatest number,” Lakshyaraj Singh’s post also read.
As per the GWR report, “Dr Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar is a TED speaker, business leader, educationist, sports patron, and philanthropist.” This is his ninth successful Guinness World Record, and it’s not his first. The focus of his records is always “philanthropy for the cause of the needy and the poor in India.”
As the video garnered attention, social media users poured out love for the initiative.
A user wrote, “Congratulations.”
