A young couple running a traditional herbal medicine shop in China have gone viral for all the wrong and right reasons. Their almost identical looks have both amused and baffled millions online, with some netizens jokingly asking whether they might actually be siblings separated at birth. Liang Caiyu and He Xiansheng, both in their twenties and from Dongguan in China shot to overnight fame after posting a series of short videos on Douyin (China’s version of TikTok) that highlight their uncanny resemblance.
One of their most popular clips, titled “Who’s the Husband, Who’s the Wife?”, shows the pair in matching wigs and outfits, mirroring each other’s facial expressions so perfectly that it’s hard to tell them apart. The post quickly went viral, drawing tens of thousands of comments.
Another widely shared video, “Putting Makeup on My Husband”, shows Liang transforming her husband’s face with cosmetics until he looks nearly identical to her.
From Blind Date To Viral Fame
According to Liang Caiyu, the two met on a blind date and married just six months later. Both hail from families that have been in the traditional herbal medicine business for more than 40 years. Liang Caiyu said as per South China Morning Post, “When we first met, I didn’t think we looked alike at all. But after living and working together almost 24/7 for two years, we gradually began to resemble each other more.”
After their wedding, the couple launched their own herbal medicine shop in 2023. While He Xiansheng formulates herbal teas and soups, Liang Caiyu handles marketing and promotions including their increasingly creative online videos.
Initially, business was slow but as followers began noticing the pair’s near-identical appearance, their look itself became a marketing tool. Even He Xiansheng, who describes himself as introverted, has learned to embrace the camera and occasionally, women’s clothing for skits.
“If it helps the business, I’ll give it a try,” he said, after admitting he was initially uncomfortable cross-dressing on video. The couple now regularly film content from their herb-picking base, showing the selection, drying and packaging processes to build credibility with viewers.
