As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly prevalent in our lives, its potential applications in healthcare are being explored. Deepak Shenoy, CEO of Bengaluru-based CapitalMind, recently shared his experience using AI to analyse his health report, sparking discussions about whether AI could eventually replace doctors.
Shenoy, in a post on X, recounted how he inputted his MRI report into ChatGPT. The AI chatbot advised him against performing deep squats, a suggestion that resonated with him as he had been training for them.
Shenoy explained that he had been experiencing knee problems and had consulted his doctor, who recommended an MRI scan. Upon feeding the report to ChatGPT, the AI identified a slight knee displacement, suggesting a possible sports-related injury. “I will meet the doctor and get treatment, but I found this information very interesting,” Shenoy stated.
Shenoy’s post elicited varied responses. Some users shared their own positive experiences with ChatGPT, citing instances where the AI provided helpful health suggestions. One user even claimed, “I also gave my ultrasonic report to ChatGPT, and it gave me better advice than the doctor.”
However, others expressed concerns about the limitations of AI in healthcare. A user cautioned, “AI-based self-determination is not right. Advice should be taken only from doctors who treat real cases every day.”
Experts acknowledge that AI can be a valuable tool in healthcare, but emphasise that it cannot replace the expertise of qualified doctors. While AI can offer insights, relying solely on AI-generated advice for medical decisions can be risky. AI currently lacks the comprehensive understanding and experience possessed by human medical professionals.
