Obsession can manifest in disturbing ways, leading some individuals to engage in criminal behaviour. In a distressing incident from Japan, a man infatuated with a cafe worker located her address, unlawfully entered her home, and stole her underwear.
According to the Japanese news website ‘The Mainichi’, police arrested the 34-year-old man residing in Tokyo. When questioned about his motive, the man claimed he was merely curious about the type of underwear the woman wore.
A statement from the Totsuka Police Station revealed that Ryota Miyahara, a private company worker residing in Tokyo’s Adachi Ward, was issued an arrest warrant on February 19. On December 31, 2024, Miyahara entered the woman’s house, located in Shinjuku Ward, and inspected her clothes and belongings with the intention of stealing her undergarments. Miyahara downplayed the allegations, stating, “He did not want to steal but just wanted to know what type of undergarments the girl wears.”
Police believe the man has secretly entered the woman’s house on at least 10 occasions. The accused stated he was drawn to the property because it was very clean and well-lit.
On December 31, the man spent two hours at the woman’s house, during which he watched a music programme on television. He was also found to possess a duplicate key to the woman’s residence. Additionally, duplicate keys to other houses were discovered in his possession, suggesting he may have been unlawfully entering other women’s homes. Previously, he was apprehended for breaking into a cafe office.
