It’s not often a batter scores more than 30 in an over. It’s rarer still when the season is on the line. But in a high-stakes clash, R. Vimal Khumar turned a simmering chase into a full-blown heist—hammering five sixes in one over to take the Dindigul Dragons into the final of the Tamil Nadu Premier League.
Chasing 179, the Dragons got off to a flyer, with captain R. Ashwin and Shivam Singh racing to 42 in just 26 balls.
But momentum is fickle. Two quick wickets tilted the game towards Chepauk Super Gillies, and with every dot ball, the pressure mounted.
Vimal walked in at No. 4 and, alongside B. Indrajith stitched a steady 60-run partnership. It kept the Dragons in the hunt, but the chase was slipping — slowly, invisibly — into CSG’s grasp. Then Indrajith fell in the 16th over. Four overs to go, 52 still needed. Dindigul’s hopes were flickering.

Rohith Suthar was handed the ball for the 17th. He had bowled just one over before, conceding four runs. He looked calm. Steady. Trusted.
Then came the storm.
Vimal started the 17th over with intent, lofting the first ball over long-off for a four. Rohith Suthar tried to adjust, dragging his length back, but Vimal was ready—he rocked back and pulled it clean over deep midwicket for six.
The pressure began to show.
Rohith missed his mark twice in a row, delivering slot balls that Vimal dispatched with brutal efficiency, each soaring high and deep into the stands. Four balls, four big hits. Desperate to regain control, Rohith went short with the fifth delivery, hoping the change of pace would work. But even that misfired. Vimal’s pull shot took a thick top edge and still flew over the fine-leg boundary. The over ended with 34 runs —the most expensive in the nine-year history of the TNPL.
Rohith stood still, head down, as the Dragons dugout exploded. Teammates jumped, coaches hugged, fans roared. In a span of minutes, the match had transformed from tightrope to cakewalk.
Vimal fell soon after for a 30-ball 65, his job complete. Dindigul crossed the finish line with four wickets and eight balls to spare.
