Mayank Arya, the CEO and founder of YesMadam, has shared an account of surviving an armed robbery in Liberia over a decade ago. In a post on LinkedIn, Arya described how he broke his leg while attempting to escape during the chaotic robbery in December 2013. The injury was so serious that doctors predicted it would take two years for a full recovery.
In his emotional post, Arya reflected on the toll the incident took on him both physically and mentally. “Funny how life works – one minute you’re doing your job, the next you’re lying here wondering if you will ever walk properly again,” he shared, revealing the painful nights and overwhelming uncertainty he felt during his recovery.
Arya said that time alone does not heal wounds; rather, it is how one uses that time that shapes their growth. He said, “They say time heals all wounds. But that’s a lie. It’s what you do with that time that truly builds you up.”
Mayank Arya launched YesMadam in 2016, just three years after the robbery.
In a letter to his past self, Arya recounted how, despite the initial despair, his broken leg eventually became a symbol of strength. “The leg that felt like the end of the world? It carried us further than you could’ve imagined,” he wrote. “You fought through all the pain, and today you are running your own company. Our company.”
Arya reflected on his journey, saying that real courage isn’t about never falling, but about refusing to stay fallen. He expressed gratitude for the lessons learned, saying, “Thank you for teaching me not to give up. Because now, we’re running – not just on our feet, but towards a purpose we are proud of.” He added with determination, “And guess what? We are not stopping here. Period.”
The internet quickly reacted to the heartfelt post with many praising the inspiring message.
A user wrote, “time didn’t just heal; it gave you the space to rebuild stronger. Stories like yours show that growth is painful, but it’s always worth it.”
Another commented, “Mayank, your journey is truly inspiring. It’s remarkable how adversity can be a catalyst for growth and transformation. Your story is a testament to the power of resilience and determination.”
“The strength in your story is beyond inspiring,” a comment read.
His post comes on the heels of a recent controversy involving YesMadam, where an internal company email sparked a social media storm. The email, written by the HR head, allegedly threatened to fire stressed employees, but the company later clarified that no one was dismissed, and the email was part of a campaign to raise awareness about workplace stress.
