People travel hundreds of kilometres to reach Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR) in Uttar Pradesh and catch a glimpse of a tiger. During the three-hour safari, tourists eagerly await those few minutes of excitement. Often, they are rewarded with memorable tiger sightings. A video of one such sighting has surfaced.
The incident occurred during a safari in Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. Tourists were enjoying the experience when a tiger emerged from the forest and walked onto the safari route. Although tiger sightings are common in PTR, this one was different. The tiger fearlessly ran towards the vehicle, sending chills down everyone’s spines. In technical terms, this behaviour is called a mock charge.
What Is A Mock Charge?
In a conversation with Local18, wildlife expert Pranjali Bhujbal explained that while tigers are known to hunt by attacking, a mock charge is often misinterpreted as an actual attack. Tigers are solitary creatures that prefer to be alone. When a person or animal gets too close, the tiger may perform a mock charge as a warning. It may look like an attack, but it is simply the tiger’s way of asserting its boundaries.
Videos have surfaced earlier too. This is not the first time a tiger has hunted or mock charged in front of tourists visiting Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. Numerous videos of such encounters have surfaced on social media. A few days ago, a video of a tiger climbing a tree in pursuit of a langur went viral. In previous years, a video of a tiger hunting a stray calf also surfaced.
