A man on board an Express train, which runs via Bengaluru, travelled without a ticket and created a scene by shouting and partially undressing in an AC coach, triggering public outrage.
The man, who was travelling in the Kurla-Coimbatore Express, was detained in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntakal.
The incident occurred on June 21 night when the train was between Wadi and Guntakal station in Andhra Pradesh.
According to the complaint, he boarded the train without a ticket and made his way into an AC coach.
The woman Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) informed the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The officials boarded the train when it arrived at Raichur station in Karnataka.
However, when they tried to remove the man, he reportedly behaved wildly and partially undressed in front of them. A video of the incident has now gone viral, showing the police leaving the train without taking any action against the man. This led to strong online criticism.
Soumya Latha, Superintendent of Police (Railways), said that the woman involved in the incident was a TTE, not a passenger. “She recorded a video and called the RPF control room, reporting that an unauthorized male passenger was in the H1 coach and was behaving in a disrespectful manner,” she said.
The GRP and RPF Guntakal deboarded the individual and said that he was a mentally unstable person, which is why no case was registered against him.
“I have asked for an internal inquiry to be initiated against the RPF personnel involved,” Latha said.
The Raichur RPF later issued a statement saying the man involved appeared to be mentally unstable. “A mentally unstable person boarded the train at Wadi. When the train reached Raichur, both RPF and GRP responded. But because of the short stop and the man’s resistance, they couldn’t remove him from the train. He was taken off at the next station,” the statement said.
The man was finally taken into custody at Guntakal in Andhra Pradesh. An investigation is now underway into how the RPF officers handled the situation.
