A peaceful riverside picnic turned into a frightening scene when a wild elephant suddenly appeared and left tourists frightened. Visitors who were enjoying cooking and relaxing by the water quickly ran away, all while leaving their food and belongings behind. The video shared by IFS officer Parveen Kaswan shows people scattering in different directions as the elephant runs behind them. In the clip, several women can be heard asking others to “Don’t run,” while the elephant chases some people before crossing the river and disappearing into the forest.
According to the Free Press Journal, the elephant incident took place on January 28 near the Assam-Arunachal border.
Kaswan shared the video to warn others about the risks of choosing picnic spots in places where wild animals often travel. He reminded people to think about their safety before visiting such areas for a nice view. Taking to X (Formerly Twitter), the IFS officer wrote, “Tell me whose mistake it is. Why choose a location for a picnic where the elephants are moving usually? In search of a beautiful location please don’t put life in danger.”

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “Why can’t the government or authorities put strict rules and make it no entry.”
Another shared, “You entered their territory, this was bound to happen. How would you feel if someone came to your house and started a picnic right at the spot? Think about that and see this. Let Nature and wildlife be the way it is. Don’t tamper with it.”
“When you don’t have enough knowledge about nature or wild animals, don’t enter the jungle! It is called foolishness,” a comment read.
An individual stated, “Who gave them special permission? If it’s a forest area and if the forest department knows about elephant movements, still, people are still picnicking means, someone inside is involved. Not defending these ppl, but they will not be aware of animal movements as much as the department.”
Another mentioned, “Elephant was kind enough to spare them.”
One more added, “I love it how elephants with such massive strength never attack humans at the first instance. It’s always a warning. Yet we never learn.”
