The daily commute is often a mundane chore filled with the stress of increasing traffic congestion, unreliable public transportation, and longer travel time. But the experience can be quite difficult if the commute to work knows no end. Recently, a man from China shared a time-lapse video giving users a glimpse of his daily commute to work, and it is far from ordinary. The man, who lives in the Chinese city of Chongqing, known for its many multiple labyrinthine levels, shows how he travels through tangled streets that go deeper and deeper.
The video unfolds to show the man yawning and getting ready for work. Moving on, he leaves his apartment and commutes to work, descending through endless stairs. As he navigates through the tangled streets, he gives viewers a look at the residential area, markets, and a bustling street he crosses. After several minutes, he reaches a place where he can be heard saying, “Now I’m gonna take the subway,” before heading down another six flights of stairs.
Hold on! This isn’t it. The man then passes through a few residential buildings before finally reaching his destination.
The video was shared on X alongside the caption, “Man shows how far down he has to go to get to work in Chongqing, China.”
In just two days of being shared, the man’s daily commute video went viral on social media. The internet users were quick to chime in on the comments section and share their views.

A user chimed in to explain, “As someone who has lived in Chongqing before, to explain why it’s like this, the city was originally built along multiple sheer cliffs. Because the roads of the city are based on already winding pathways that exist, it’s much easier to commute by foot most of the time when compared to, say, a car or bus. Subways are the only exception, as they were built mostly after the rapid developmental inception of city transport projects, and one of the most famous examples of accommodating the new transportation systems is the famous subway train that passes through an apartment complex.”
