A video of a tiny New York City apartment with an unusual sink-toilet combination has startled people on social media. City dweller Emily Bonani posted a clip of her small space, but the arrangement has been widely criticised. The video, which grabbed attention on TikTok, shows an odd layout in Bonani’s bathroom, where the toilet also functions as a wash basin.
Emily Bonani spends $2,000 (about Rs 1,73,382) a month for her flat, despite the small space, according to a New York Post report. The wash basin is an unusual space-saving solution because it is placed just over the toilet’s flush tank. The catch? Only when the toilet has been flushed can the washbasin be utilised.
This bathroom is the smallest in all of New York City, according to Emily Bonani’s video, and she even challenges her followers to disprove her claim. “What if I want to flush the toilet but I don’t want to turn on the sink? … that’s not an option!” Emily Bonani expresses her frustration in the video.

As per reports, Emily Bonani’s video has racked up nearly 13 million views on TikTok. She also shared the same video on Instagram on January 29. So far, it has amassed over 1.6 million views. The clip has also sparked a flurry of reactions from social media users.
Many were shocked and compared the arrangement to a “prison toilet”, saying it was unhygienic.
A user wrote, “This looks like something straight out of a horror movie – can’t imagine using that every day.”
Another commented, “What if you don’t want to wash your hands immediately after flushing? Gross!”
“This is beyond saving space; it is just a recipe for disaster,” a user stated while few expressed doubts about the space-saving concept’s viability.
“It is a sad reality of New York apartments – small and expensive,” another sympathetic user said.
