A visually impaired boy, first spotted singing on a TSRTC bus, is now set to perform on a Telugu TV show. This opportunity came after TSRTC Managing Director V C Sajjanar shared a video of Raju singing while passengers listened to him attentively. The video, posted on Instagram, quickly gained attention.

Sajjanar tagged Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravani, urging him to consider Raju for playback singing in films. While Keeravani has not responded yet, music director SS Thaman stepped in. “I will ensure he performs on a Telugu TV show,” Thaman said. He praised Raju’s perfect pitch and added, “I will perform alongside him.”

On Children’s Day, Sajjanar felicitated Raju and his family to celebrate this recognition. The boy’s story has since inspired many across the country.

Raju’s Journey

Raju, 32, hails from Shamshiguda village in Telangana, about 40 km from Hyderabad. Born blind, he lives with his mother, sister and brother-in-law. His mother, Sattemma, shared in an interview that Raju began singing at a young age. “As a child, he would sit on the parapet and sing. He learned songs by listening to tape recorders from neighbours,” she said.

Raju’s passion for music has grown over the years. With just an empty can and a one-rupee coin, he creates a rhythm for his singing. To enhance his talent, Raju attends Carnatic music classes every Sunday and is also learning to play the Mridangam.

A Bright Future Ahead

The video of Raju singing on the bus not only showcased his talent but also highlighted his determination and love for music. Thaman’s support promises to open new doors for the singer. The Telugu TV show performance could be a stepping stone toward bigger opportunities in the music industry.

Raju’s story is an example of talent and perseverance. With support from people like Thaman and Sajjanar, the visually impaired singer’s dream of making a mark in the music world is closer to becoming a reality.
