While many young Indians dream of settling abroad, Astrid Esmeralda from Denmark is going viral for her decision to move to the Asian country. After leaving her life in Copenhagen, Astrid has spent the past 10 months exploring India and shared her journey on social media.

In a recent post, she claimed that moving to India was one of her best decisions. She was bored with her life back in Copenhagen, which she found dull and sleepy. In India, she feels alive by the country’s diversity, culture and natural beauty. Her experiences in Rishikesh, Goa and Mumbai have made her fall in love with the people. She believes the country has awakened her dreams and even taught her about the power of karma.

In her post, Astrid wrote, “On my 10th month and this has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. I needed a change. It felt like there was nothing left for me in Copenhagen. I loved my job, my apartment, and my friends, but I was so bored of the city.

“It’s only fun in the summer. The rest of the time, we’re all just waiting for summer and it feels like such a sleepy place. Now in India, I feel alive. India has opened my eyes to so much. First of all, I’ve fallen in love with a country that’s so diverse, wild and beautiful. I’ve fallen in love with the culture, the people and the nature.”

“India has shown me new sides of myself, awakened my dreams and given me trust in my journey. It’s also shown me the real effects of karma. I’m grateful for everything, most of all, the privilege to be able to travel, live abroad and explore the world. I’ll stay here one more month, then spend my summer travelling in Europe and come back again after the monsoon. If you’re even thinking about travelling to India. GO FOR IT. It’s been life-changing for me,” Astrid Esmeralda added.

The Danish woman further shared that before her first trip to India, she felt nervous because many warned her about safety. But everything turned out to be very different. She also mentioned that she sold all her belongings and moved to India without any set plan. She did it without fear and has no regrets about her decision.

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “I would give anything to get away from Delhi sun, again. A lakefront cottage would be perfect.”

“Hey it’s a blessing to live in India for sure, it’s beautiful for sure,” a comment read.

Another mentioned, “Been here for 2 months, absolutely great. But nothing would stop me here from returning to Ireland. India is great, the food, weather, geography etc, but as a resident, perhaps not.”

One more added, “It might not be everything, but it’s a beauty of its own.”

After her video went viral, in the comments, Astrid Esmeralda acknowledged that having a European passport gives her more freedom to travel and she knows that this isn’t fair. It upsets her that many Indians face problems when trying to visit Europe or get visas. Astrid also mentioned that she knows many people in India can’t even afford to travel within their own country.
