Chinese Fighter Jet Designer Big Dream: Sun Kang, who has designed warplanes like China’s fighter aircraft J-15, has a big dream that fighter jets can also be made at the same speed with which smartphones are made. He shared this dream recently. He said this with the aim of reducing the time taken in manufacturing fighter planes.
According to the report of China Central Television (CCTV), Sun Kang was speaking at a forum organized on aviation and aerospace medicine. “Our development cycles have become much longer now and this has created a new challenge for our aircraft research: can we make aircraft like mobile phones? This is our dream for the future,” he said.
How will this dream of Sun Kang be fulfilled?
The thing to be noted here is that it takes years to develop aircraft used in war, whereas mobile phones keep coming very quickly. Global Times quoted Wang Yanan, chief editor of Aerospace Knowledge Magazine, as saying that Sun’s comment gives China an opportunity to achieve a target.
If this dream comes true…
Wang said that the design and development of war planes is a complex process. It includes different systems like weapons, radar and displays. He said such a move requires strong comprehensive capabilities of the country to support multidimensional progress. According to Wang, if such a dream is to be achieved then they will need an open structure. Wang says that if this dream comes true, it will be a major change in the old methods of aircraft design.
