Job applications are mostly digital these days but one candidate’s approach was different and that has caught attention online. Saptarshi Prakash, Swiggy’s Assistant Vice President of Design, shared his surprise upon receiving a physical letter from an aspiring designer. Based in Bengaluru, Prakash shared this unique experience on LinkedIn.
In his post, he highlighted that the applicant, eager to join Swiggy, had proposed an idea aimed at enhancing the user experience of the Swiggy app. The candidate wrote, “When I started my career in UI/UX, I always had one dream – to begin my professional journey with a company as dynamic and visionary as Swiggy, under the guidance of someone like you.”
In the letter sent via India Post, the applicant expressed how the way Swiggy blends user experience with functional design has significantly influenced the applicant’s approach to design. “I’ve developed a concept that I feel could be beneficial to the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience,” the applicant added.
This personal touch stood out as the candidate expressed a strong desire to share their concept, stating, “I would love to have the opportunity to present it to you and the team given the chance. What I am truly hoping for is a single opportunity to express myself and showcase my work in front of you. I’m confident that my enthusiasm, hard work, and creativity would be an asset to Swiggy’s design team.”
Prakash noted that he has been approached before but this was the first time someone had used a physical letter. “Now, this isn’t the first time someone has approached me, but it’s the first time through a physical letter sent via India Post! In a world where emails and DMs are the go-to methods, this person decided to go old-school to stand out. And you know what? It worked,” he wrote.
However, Prakash mentioned that there are currently no open UX/UI design roles at Swiggy, but he welcomed the candidate to share their concept via email. “To the person who sent the letter: While we may not have a relevant role at Swiggy for you at the moment, I’ve definitely taken note of your initiative. For now, please check out the comments in this post. I’d also love to review the concept you have developed. Would you mind dropping me an email? I’m sure you’ll find my email address—you found my physical one!” he wrote on LinkedIn.
The post caught significant attention online with social media users sharing their thoughts in the comment section.
