We have often come across videos on social media that show wedding pranks going wrong. Just when we thought it could not get any worse, a clip showing wedding guests gifting a blue drum to a newlywed couple has gone viral. The incident, which took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur, has triggered widespread outrage.
The bizarre gesture, which many social media users deemed as a dark prank, has reference to the chilling Meerut murder case. The murder of Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput by his wife Muskan Rastogi in March sent shockwaves across the country. The woman allegedly drugged and killed Saurabh along with her lover Sahil. Following the brutal killing, the duo reportedly hid the victim’s body in a blue plastic drum. They eventually filled it with cement to conceal it.
In the latest incident, the bride and groom sat on stage when a group of friends approached them. They carried a huge blue-coloured drum and presented it as a gift. While the couple initially looked puzzled, everyone burst out in laughter soon after.
The video was uploaded with a caption in Hindi which can be loosely translated to, “What could be a more tasteless joke than this! It can, by no means, be considered appropriate to recall a heinous massacre as a joke on a joyous occasion like a wedding. In the Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh, during a wedding, friends gifted the bride and groom a ‘blue drum’.”
What could be a lewd joke than this! Recalling a heinous murder case as a joke on the occasion of happiness like marriage cannot be called appropriate. During the wedding in the district Hamirpur in Uttar Pradesh, friends gifted the bride and groom to “Neela Drum”. pic.twitter.com/tvGnVlWsIb

The identities of the couple and wedding guests couldn’t not be verified. However, the video has sparked a debate on downplaying gruesome real-life violence.
A social media user said, The world has become mentally ill, every street is making a mockery of this massacre. Only when it happens to oneself does one realise, when it’s someone’s own.”
Another added, “There are more foolish people in this world. What a manifestation.”
Someone noted, “Whatever thoughts run through someone’s mind, these friends of the groom, more like enemies, are expressing their base sentiments in the guise of jest.”
“The height of rudeness, such people cannot be friends,” a comment read.
