Shanti Devi has been felicitated with numerous awards.

Vijay Kumar Jha, hailing from Bihar, is currently in the headlines for his Madhubani Painting, also known as Mithila Painting. It is a traditional form of painting that is practised in the Madhubani district of Bihar. According to Local 18 Delhi, Vijay exhibited this painting at the India International Trade Fair going on at the Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. However, he has not drawn this artwork. A 70-year-old lady named Shanti Devi, felicitated previously by the Rashtrapati Medha Puraskar, has made this painting. The highlight of this painting is that Shanti Devi used flowers and leaves to fill the colours. She has curated this painting on a 5-feet-long paper and it took her 6 months to draw this. Apart from the Rashtrapati Medha Puraskar, Shanti Dev has also been honoured with the Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Award. The veteran artist has also received laurels for her talent in Italy.

Vijay Kumar Jha, who brought this painting for the exhibition at the Pragati Maidan, talked about the specialty of this beautiful artwork. He said that this creation is famous all over the world by the name of Mithila Lok Chitrakala. According to Vijay, this painting has been carved on paper and is coated with cow dung. He said that this painting is based on the 10 avatars (incarnations) of Lord Vishnu. He said that the people who are religious in approach always adore paintings. Vijay said that this is the reason many such people are arriving in huge numbers at the trade fair to see the painting curated by Shanti Devi as well.

Vijay said that the Mithila Lok Chitrakala was famous even during the Ramayana. As per his information, such paintings have been curated even before the Ramayana time period. He said that in today’s time, people have started referring to such artworks as the Madhubani paintings. However, he said that these are not the Madhubani paintings but the Mithila Lok Chitrakala. Apart from Shanti Devi’s artwork, Vijay has also exhibited other paintings at the India International Trade Fair worth Rs 1000 to Rs 5 lakh.

Vijay said that these paintings are handmade and the machines are not used in their curation.
