Indians have a knack for finding creative solutions to everyday problems, often called “jugaad.” It is a way of thinking where people come up with simple yet effective fixes using whatever is available. This mindset has led to many innovative ideas, some of which catch the attention of the online audience. Recently, a Bengaluru-based product designer, Ashita, came up with a clever “jugaad” after getting a new water purifier installed in her apartment.
When Ashita needed to drain the first batch of water from the purifier, she realised that the kitchen sink was a bit too far away. To tackle the situation, she came up with a smart hack. She placed a large plastic bottle under the purifier’s tap and cut a slit in it which allowed the excess water to flow into another smaller bottle. The second bottle was positioned in such a way that it directed the overflowing water straight into the kitchen sink.
Sharing a photo of her setup on X (formerly Twitter), Ashita wrote, “I just got a water purifier and first batch (of water) needed to be emptied. As a lazy designer, I had to do something.” In a follow-up post, she added, “The fun part was using a big knife to cut out the bottles.”
Take a look at the post here:
Since being posted online, Ashita’s post gained over thirty thousand views. In the comment section, many users praised her creativity while others shared their own methods for draining the purifier water.
One user wrote, “I literally just got a purifier today and drained it, wish I saw this before for inspiration.”
Another jokingly commented, “This should be part of the resume as problem solving skills, time and process optimisation.”
“AI can’t replace you so it’ll then try to achieve the physical form. It still won’t be able to replace you,” an individual remarked.
Someone called her “Jugaadu designer” while a person commented, “Your engineering degree will be soooo proud of you today.”
A user suggested, “A ‘designer’ would think of reusing this water for some other purpose and not wasting it directly!”
Another said, “It’s summer, you could have used the water some other way like by pouring on plants and keeping it in a bowl for birds.”
“Wow! What a coincidence, even I installed a purifier today. But I chose to collect in a tub and watered the plants in my balcony,” a comment read.
