A man arrived at the Cartagena Airport in Colombia sporting a wavy hair wig. However, during the X-ray screening, his hair aroused the suspicion of the police. When they removed the wig, they were astonished to find drugs concealed in it.
According to Colombian officials, on February 20, 2025, the 40-year-old man was apprehended at Cartagena Airport for attempting to smuggle 220 grams of cocaine to Amsterdam by concealing it under a wavy hair wig.
Airport security apprehended the individual. The suspect, hailing from Pereira, Colombia, was about to board a flight to Amsterdam, Netherlands, when the anti-narcotics police detained him for further investigation. Officers discovered 19 capsules containing approximately 400 doses of cocaine hidden beneath his wig.
A police statement released on February 24 confirmed the arrest. Brigadier General Gelver Yesid Pena Araque, Commander of the Cartagena Metropolitan Police, stated that experts had created a profile of the man before conducting a comprehensive scan and body search.
“During a scanner and physical search at the airport, the wig was recovered, which contained more than 220 grams of cocaine. He wanted to take it from Colombia to the Netherlands to earn a lot of money by selling it,” Araque said.
Officials stated that the concealed cocaine is valued at over 10,000 euros (approximately Rs 9 lakh 8 thousand), confirmed through homologated preliminary identification testing. The man faces charges of drug trafficking and other offences.
Police stated that the arrested man already has two cases of drug trafficking on his record. He is currently in the custody of the Attorney General’s Office of Colombia. Police emphasised that this arrest has dealt a significant blow to criminal activities.
