An 18-year-old girl shared a disturbing incident at a pool on Reddit, involving inappropriate behaviour by boys, all estimated to be around 8-10 years old

A disturbing incident at a swimming pool, shared by an 18-year-old girl on Reddit, has reignited debate over the growing exposure of children to inappropriate co ntent online and its effect on their behaviour. The girl, who posted anonymously on the forum r/AskIndianWomen, recounted an unsettling experience involving three boys, all estimated to be around 8 to 10 years old, whose actions, she claimed, left her shaken and deeply concerned.
The young woman, who is a regular swimmer, had been taking a break during her routine pool session when she noticed the group of boys. At first, she didn’t think much of it. “They were pretty much doing regular kid stuff like splashing each other and all so I didn’t think much of it,” she wrote in the post.
What initially appeared as harmless play soon turned into something far more troubling. According to her post, the boys began deliberately diving underwater to look at her feet. She was wearing a standard swimsuit but said that she quickly sensed that their attention was not innocent. “I then noticed they went underwater and were getting close to my legs (I was wearing a short swimsuit),” her post said.
“Again considering their age I didn’t think much of it and just walked away. After that one of the boys approached me and started singing a famous item song,” she wrote, adding, “They followed me around for about 8-10 min whenever I stopped for a breath and would go underwater and stare at my legs (literally less than a metre away from my legs).”

The situation continued for nearly ten minutes before she decided to confront them. “I yelled at them to get away from me and then they left and didn’t come back,” she said. Later, she shared the incident with another female swimmer, who revealed that the boys had done something similar to her as well.
In her Reddit post, the teenager didn’t just recount the incident, she used it to highlight how young children are prone to unsupervised internet usage. “These kids are so young and their brains are already so fried. Experiences like these are why I wanna leave India as fast as possible. If anyone seeing this post has younger siblings please monitor what they are watching and teach them proper manners,” she wrote.
The post has since gone viral, triggering a flood of reactions from other users. Many expressed outrage, not just at the incident but also at the broader societal neglect around children’s digital exposure. “These kids need to be spoken to by a responsible adult. Their parents must be informed,” one user wrote. Another urged the girl to report the incident to pool authorities.
Some users even called for action beyond individual confrontation. “This is why content filtering and active parenting is crucial. These boys aren’t inherently bad, but they’re clearly absorbing content they shouldn’t,” another user noted.
Psychologists and child development experts have long warned of the dangers of unrestricted screen time, especially when it involves unmonitored access to platforms filled with suggestive or violent content. Incidents like this, many argue, show the real-world consequences of neglecting that advice.
