Blood Donation : Donating blood is a living task, which can save someone’s life. Every year millions of people need blood due to many reasons like accidents, surgery, thalassemia, anemia, cancer. But do you know that there are some people who cannot donate blood even if they want to? Whether the reason behind this is related to health or related to infection, it is necessary for everyone to know so that the right decision can be taken in time.
Age and weight limit
For blood donation in India, the minimum age is 18 years and the minimum weight is 45 kg. If a person is of less age or weight, then he is not considered suitable for blood donation, because doing so can have a negative effect on his own health.
Anemia or low hemoglobin
If a person has a low hemoglobin content (less than 13 g/dL in men and 12.5 g/dL in women), then they are not allowed to donate blood. Because their own body is already struggling with lack of oxygen.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women
Women are forbidden to donate blood during pregnancy or after delivery, because at this time the body is weak and blood loss is already faced. This can affect the health of the woman.
Infection
If someone has viral fever, typhoid, malaria, dengue, or any other infectious disease, he cannot donate blood until it is completely cured. This is at risk of spreading infection to the person receiving blood.
