Gay Imam Murder: Muhasin Hendrix, called the world’s first gay Imam, was murdered in South Africa. He was shot near Gakbarha city on Saturday. South African police said that he was going by car with another person, when the attackers carried out the incident.

Police said, ‘The attackers stopped their car in front of their car and closed the way for them to get out. After this, two masked men came out of the car and started firing dhandhan bullets on the Imam’s vehicle. After this, the attackers escaped. Only Muhasin died in this attack. The driver first saw that he had bullets. Police have said that the cause of the murder has not yet been ascertained and the matter is being investigated.

LGBTQ community condemns attack
The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Internationals Association have condemned the murder of the Imam. The association’s executive Julia Ihrt said in a statement, ‘The entire ILGA family is in deep shock due to the news of the murder of Muhasin Hendrix. Officers should investigate this murder thoroughly because we are afraid that it may be a hate crime.

It was revealed to be gay 28 years ago
Muhasin Hendrix publicly admitted in 1996 that he is gay. He was then part of the LGBTQ community fighting groups. He used to run an al-ghurbah mosque in Venberg near his birthplace Cape Town. According to the website of the mosque, this is a safe place where gay Muslims and marginalized women can follow Islam religion. Hendrix also talked about the threats he received in ‘The Radical’, a documentary in 2022.
