You know that feeling when a vacation completely alters your sense of normal life? Like, you visit a place thinking it’s just a trip, but it turns into an obsession. Case in point? A man whose life changed in a full-blown life crisis after he took a trip to Thailand, as he dramatically put it in a post on Reddit, saying, “Thailand has ruined my life.”

The post seems more like a love letter to Thailand than a rant, though, as the man candidly shared how he ended up falling for the country on his very first visit, and people across the Internet are relating hard.

In his Reddit post, the man goes on to explain how he first visited Thailand in May 2024 and instantly fell head over heels, so much so that he spent a total of “13 weeks” in the span of just 12 months there. Simply put, his life has not been the same since. Guess what? He went back again in December for another five-week trip to the beautiful country.

“I first visited on May 24, fell in love with the place. Within the next 12 months, I went again 4 more times for a total of 13 weeks, going back again for 5 weeks in December,” read the Reddit post.

Man’s Retirement Plans

Now, all the man thinks about is retiring in Thailand only, and that’s not all. He is also ready to leave his well-paid job, sell off all his possessions, and start a new life there. And honestly, is he to be blamed here?

The man further wrote, “All I ever think about is retiring there at 50 now, constantly talking about the place. Willing to leave a fairly well-paid job in 4 more years and sell all my possessions just to get out there full-time at 50. D*mn you, Thailand for being so d*mn good!”

Internet Relates Hard

And the Internet? It instantly flooded the comment section with their reactions, and it seems that they did not just understand the man but lived his dream. One of them also offered a reality check, saying, “You should come for a period of several months and try to live as a resident; things can be very different.”

Another added, “I’m retired here, and I love it here. I will tell you, the grass isn’t greener on the side; it’s just a different shade of green. You really need to slow down and spend a few months continuously in one place to see what it’s really like.”

Meanwhile, others encouraged the man, saying, “Totally doable if you can find a remote gig and can also do it in the local time zone…. If not, save enough to last you until Social Security kicks in…. I’m 58 and wishing I had done this in my late 40s (now a plan to expatriate in a couple years).”

Someone else added, “Do it. I sold everything, got a remote job and moved here in April. As ghosttravel said, ‘YOLO’.”

Well, Thailand is the ultimate escape plan for many, not just the man who said it out loud.
