Popular storytelling platform Humans of New York (HONY) recently hosted a young man who is facing backlash on the internet for his confession related to dating older women. An Instagram post shared by HONY four days ago highlighted the man’s confession over his inability to form lasting emotional connections with women.
“I like older women. My longest relationship ever was with a 43-year-old woman. But even then— we’re talking for only four weeks. I’m kinda worried that I’ll never fall in love,” the man told HONY. He said that despite having dated older women, he struggles with fleeting interests.
The post read that the man after pursuing physical intimacy with the woman he dates, feels disconnected immediately afterwards. In his bizarre confession, the man also questioned a woman’s value if she becomes physically involved “too quickly”. “If you gave it up like this, and you just met me, then what’s your value?” he said, attracting widespread criticism and allegations of sexism.
He also said that he felt “disgusted” after waking up next to a woman, experiencing discomfort and wanting to distance himself immediately. He confessed that the excitement of chasing women fades once they get intimate, leading him to be unsure of what to pursue next.
“I don’t know how else to describe it. I’ll barely look at them… say the bare minimum trying to get away,” he added,
He then compares his situation with women to sports. “But if we were to play football, and they gave us the championship right away, then why do we have to work? What’s the point?” he added.
The surprising confession has left many people puzzled and concerned. The comment section of the HONY post was flooded with people suggesting the man to opt for therapy to understand his situation.
Some people say that the man’s behaviour reveals an objectifying attitude towards women. They said that he approached the woman with the intent of physical intimacy. However, the idea that women could be okay with that too quite early in the relationship disgusts him. They said it reflects his inability to see women as individuals beyond their physical value.
