A disturbing incident has come to light from Andhra Pradesh, where a female student hit a woman lecturer with her footwear. It took place on Monday, April 21, at a private engineering college on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam. The student reportedly verbally abused and attacked the lecturer on campus following the confiscation of her mobile phone.
The incident came to light a day later when a video of the altercation went viral online. According to a report in the Times of India, the confrontation began when a lecturer warned the student about talking loudly on the phone on college premises. The lecturer then took the student’s cell phone when she continued to make the call despite the warning.
Following this, the student began verbally abusing the lecturer. The situation worsened when the student removed her footwear and hit the lecturer in front of other students. One of the students present there reportedly recorded the entire episode. The video circulated widely online, causing public outrage and drawing criticism.
Many social media users expressed concern about declining standards of discipline and respect in educational institutions. Several users slammed the student for her rude behaviour, with one writing, “Small advice to present teachers is to let these students do whatever they want don’t try to correct them, they are not like 90’s kids anymore. They clearly know they are on the wrong path and let them realise when time hits them back.”
“Please do not entertain such types of students. I request you to debar or dismiss the student from the college with the issuance of TC with character BAD,” another posted. A user said, “Student should face strict consequences for her actions.” “It’s unfortunate it’s a clear sign of declining of moral values in students there is no security for teaching school/college staff,” read another comment.
The Bheemili police said they were aware of the incident but hadn’t received any formal complaint from the lecturer or the college management. Meanwhile, reports added that the college management cautioned the girl for her misconduct but did not take any action against her at her parent’s request and taking into account the student’s prospects.
