A group of SpiceJet passengers allegedly misbehaved with airline staff at Pune airport while protesting against the quality of food served to them during a reported flight delay.
Videos circulating on social media show agitated passengers surrounding a SpiceJet ground staff member, demanding that he consume the same food they were given. The airline employee is seen complying with the demand and eating the meal in front of the crowd.
In response to the incident, SpiceJet issued a statement denying the passengers’ allegations and asserting that the food served was both fresh and of good quality. “The food was sourced from an authorised vendor who supplies packaged meals not only to SpiceJet but also to several other airlines and customers within the terminal,” the airline said.
Addressing the confrontation, the airline condemned the passengers’ behaviour towards its employees. “Our ground staff carry out their duties diligently and to the best of their abilities. The incident captured in the video is deeply unfortunate, and the behaviour displayed towards our staff is unacceptable and condemnable,” SpiceJet said in a statement to Hindustan Times.
The airline further emphasised that its employee remained “polite, respectful, and professional despite being subjected to verbal abuse and unwarranted physical conduct.” SpiceJet affirmed its support for its ground crew and strongly denounced any form of misbehaviour or aggression against them.
Netizens React Sharply To Passenger Behaviour
The viral video triggered strong reactions online, with many users criticising the passengers for their conduct.
“People with zero etiquette,” one user wrote on Instagram.
Another asked, “Why harass and humiliate the airport staff?”
“What a crap behaviour towards staff! Passengers have lost their minds these days!” commented another user.
