In what appears to be a chilling echo of the recent Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, a young woman allegedly conspired with her maternal uncle to kill her husband in old blood. As per reports, the victim, 24-year-old Priyanshu Kumar Singh, was murdered on the night of June 24 while he was returning from the railway station. Initial probe suggested a contract killing, only for the case to take a darker turn when the police found Priyanshu’s wife, Gunja’s involved behind it. While the incident has drawn a shocking similarity to the Meghalaya honeymoon murder, reports also suggest that Gunja had taken inspiration from the case before making the sinister murder plot against her husband.
A week after getting her husband killed, Gunja had the police on her doorstep. resulting in her arrest on July 2. As per the police investigation, she had been in a relationship with Jeevan Singh, the husband of her paternal aunt, for the past several years and was forced to get married to Priyanshu, a farmer from Barwan in Aurangabad, Bihar. The suspects allegedly hired hitmen for the job and had now been booked for murder. Two other people have also been arrested in the case for assisting in the crime.
At the time of the murder, Priyanshu and Gunja had been married for only 45 days.
Speaking on the same, Aurangabad SP Ambrish Rahul revealed that the woman had been in an illicit relationship with her uncle for over 15 years and was reluctant to marry, but had to do it after getting pressurised by her family. Having faced difficulty in maintaining a secret affair after marriage, she allegedly started plotting her husband’s murder.
Gunja orchestrated the murder with Jeevan, who arranged for contract killers with the help of two men from Jharkhand’s Garhwa district. On the night of the murder, Priyanshu was returning from Varanasi when he called his wife and informed her about his location, who allegedly passed the information to the killers when they fatally shot him. Following her arrest on Wednesday, Gunja has confessed to her crime. While the two other assailants have been arrested, Jeevan Singh remains on the run.
As per the Indian Express, the police also found that her uncle had broken up her previous marriage proposals, before her father arranged her wedding with the deceased. Even after their marriage, Gunja and her uncle continued communication, which led to a disturbance in their marital life.
