A shocking video from a government school in Bihar has sparked debate about the quality of education in rural areas. Government teachers, who often clear several competitive exams before landing the job, earn between Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000 each month. Parents trust them to help their children not only in studies but also in shaping their future. Yet, this trust has been shaken after a clip surfaced showing a teacher struggling with very simple math problems. The incident has left many questioning how well-trained and prepared such educators really are.
While government schools are meant to help underprivileged kids and provide them with equal learning opportunities, but such teachers raise serious doubts about the quality of learning in public schools.
Government Teachers Earning High Salaries But Struggle With Basics
The video, shared on Instagram, begins with a man asking a government school teacher about her position, to which she responds that she is a Shikshan Sevak, a contract based teacher hired for a limited time. Soon after, he gives her a simple math question to solve. But instead of answering correctly, she fumbles with the problem and keeps making basic errors. Each time she goes wrong, the man points it out, yet she continues to repeat the same mistakes.
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “I’m sure she got the position through reservations.”
Another shared, “Not only are there some institutions that give B.Ed. and M.A. degrees for money without proper attendance of students and forgery in exams.”
“Deserving candidates are in stress/depression doing private jobs and people like her are earning huge govt salaries without basic education,” a comment read.
An individual stated, “How do they get hired too?”
Another mentioned, “I know a teacher from the General category (Jain), English teacher of govt school. He doesn’t even know the language properly and tense correctly. I asked him how he managed to get the job, and he said ‘Exam diya or pass ho gaya pata nahi kaise’.”
One more added, “The children will be better off with some hands on training, which will help them to be recruited in some industry, in future.”
