Shark Tank India judge Anupam Mittal has weighed in on the controversy around Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Chairman SN Subrahmanyan’s statement over long working hours.
L&T chief’s remark, which suggested employees should work 90 hours a week, including Sundays, to remain competitive, has sparked significant backlash online.
Mittal took a lighthearted jab over Subrahmanyan’s remark and highlighted the absurdity of the statement.

Mittal’s witty jab immediately triggered a flood of hilarious and sarcastic reactions from social media users.
“By working in the office and looking at someone else’s wife in the office,” a user said, while another added, “Don’t worry about that, someone else will look at your wives.”
What Did Subrahmanyan Say?
Subrahmanyan, during an interaction with employees, stirred debate when he advocated for a 90-hour workweek, lamenting that he couldn’t make employees work on Sundays.
“What do you do sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife? How long can the wives stare at their husbands? Get to the office and start working,” he further said.
Several industrialists, Bollywood stars and politicians reacted to his statement.
Reactions On L&T Chief’s Statement
Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of Serum Institute of India, has agreed with Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra over the importance of “work life balance”. Poonawalla said, “Even my wife loves staring at me on Sundays“.
Mahindra Group Chairman had said, “I’m on social media not because I’m lonely. My wife is wonderful, I love staring at her. I’m here because people don’t understand it is an amazing business tool.”
Earlier, RPG Group Chairman Harsh Goenka had said that work-life balance isn’t optional, its essential.
“90 hours a week? Why not rename Sunday to ‘Sun-duty’ and make ‘day off’ a mythical concept! Working hard and smart is what I believe in, but turning life into a perpetual office shift? That’s a recipe for burnout, not success. Work-life balance isn’t optional, it’s essential,” Goenka wrote on X.
Rajiv Bajaj, managing director of Bajaj Auto, said, “Let 90 hours start from the top. Number of hours of work doesn’t matter, quality of work does. We need a kinder, gentler world more than ever before.”
