In a shocking incident, an Uttar Pradesh minister allegedly ordered the transfer of a

a specially abled doctor for not greeting him in person during a hospital visit in the Sonbhadra district.

Sanjeev Kumar Gond, who serves as the state minister for Social Welfare and SC/ST Welfare, was in Dibulganj to inaugurate a solar power plant at the Community Health Centre. According to NDTV, the hospital’s medical superintendent, Dr Ravi Singh, continued to treat a patient while several people arrived to greet the minister.

The minister, upset, was seen on camera asking the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to order Dr Singh’s transfer “to some jungle” despite his explanation that was carrying out his duties. The politician accused Dr Singh of not understanding “how to behave.”

A video of the minister making a call to the CMO, which shows him sitting with Dr Singh, has gone viral. In the clip, he asks why Dr Singh is wearing a mask when “there were no patients around.” In a composed reply, Dr Singh stated that caution is always preferable in a medical facility.

According to an NDTV report, Minister Sanjeev Gond ignored the doctor’s courteous responses and asked to know why the doctor was allocated to his constituency. He also insisted that the doctor be transferred right away.

“Send him to some jungle… Why do you keep people like this here? He doesn’t know how to talk to people,” the minister is heard saying in the now-viral clip.

Dr. Singh made an effort to explain that he was preoccupied with a patient when he tried to meet with the minister. His justification was dismissed.

Take a look at the video here:

Later, Minister Sanjeev Gond told reporters outside the hospital that the doctor could not have been aware of his visit. “I don’t think he was aware I was coming. If he had known, he would’ve behaved properly,” he said as quoted by NDTV.

He emphasised that he expected officials in his constituency to treat people with dignity and stated that his priority was making sure hospital services for underprivileged patients were adequate.
