SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch will appear before Parliament’s PAC today, fear of uproar in PAC meeting

SEBI: SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch will appear before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament on Thursday. Even after SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch has responded to the allegations made by American short seller Hindenburg, this meeting becomes very important for the SEBI Chairperson and there is a possibility of a lot of uproar in it. In fact, Bharatiya Janata Party has accused PAC President and Congress MP KC Venugopal of taking a stand against the SEBI Chief due to his political interest. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey said that PAC chief and MP KC Venugopal may take a tough stand against Madhabi Puri Butch in the PAC committee meeting for the political benefit of Congress.

What is the agenda of Thursday’s meeting?

Oral evidence from representatives of the Finance Ministry and SEBI will be included in the agenda of Thursday’s meeting. Since most of the decisions of the Parliamentary Committee will be based on the protests under the Act of Parliament prescribed for the PAC, it will be seen for review. Along with this, oral evidence given by the representatives of Telecommunication Ministry and representatives of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India i.e. TRAI will also be included in this meeting.

Why are eyes on the meeting?

The general work of the PAC created under an Act of Parliament also includes performance review of the regulatory bodies of the country. Everyone agrees on this also. Despite this, questions are being raised about today’s meeting because Congress’s KC Venugopal had threatened Madhabi Puri Buch about appearing before the PAC himself. There are doubts about such action after the allegations leveled against SEBI chief Madhabi Puri of Hindenburg. SEBI Chief was accused of having stake in companies related to Adani Group or its owners and it was said that due to this reason SEBI was leniency in the investigation against Adani Group.
