Sawan, also known as the month of Shravanis considered one of the most spiritual months in the Hindu religion. This holy period is deemed special every day, as it is believed that Lord Shiva resides from Pratipada to Purnima. Among all the days, Mondays (Somvar) hold particular spiritual significance. Devotees observe fasts on Sawan Mondays to fulfil wishes and seek relief from troubles by surrendering to Mahadev, who is both the creator and destroyer of the universe.
It is said that offering water (Jalabhishek) to the Shivling during this time brings immense blessings. According to tradition, performing Jalabhishek on a Sawan Monday is even more auspicious.

According to the Drik Panchangthe month of Sawan begins at 2:06 am on Friday, July 11, 2025, with the Pratipada Tithith of Krishna paksha. The tithi ends on Saturday, July 12 at 2:08 am. Based on Udaya tithiSawan will officially begin on Friday, July 11, 2025 and will end on Saturday, August 9, 2025, on the day of Shravan Purnima. Thus, the month spans from Krishna paksha pratipada to Purnima.
Sawan Monday Fast Dates 2025
This year, devotees will observe four Sawan Somvar fasts. Those looking to begin the Somvar vrat can start from the first Monday of the month. For specific wishes, it is advisable to fast from the very first Monday. Although there are four Mondays in Sawan this year, many devotees also keep an extra Monday fast to complete five. Traditionally, 16 Somvar fasts are observed for full spiritual benefit.

Jalabhishek Timings and Ritual
On Sawan Mondays, devotees visit Shiva temples from early morning. After bathing during Brahma muhurtaone should wear clean clothes and prepare a pot of Ganga water (or clean water) mixed with cow’s milk. Add some flowers and bel leaves to it and perform Jalabhishek on the Shivling. This ritual continues throughout the day.
