A Delhi woman has compared her life as a working woman in India’s national capital with that of her colleague in a European country.

Titled “The life of a 28y old woman in Delhi vs 28y old woman in Europe,” the Redditt post enumerated the stark differences. She shared that both she and her Scandinavian teammate were the same age and held the same job position.

Both commuted for about 1.5 hours daily by train. However, her colleague enjoyed a comfortable, direct train ride with a reserved seat, allowing her to start work on the way. In contrast, the Delhi woman changes the train twice with no guarantee of a seat.

She mentioned her teammate chose to live far from work for peace and quiet. But her own reason for staying far from the office was different — she couldn’t afford to live separately from her parents, despite having the same role as her colleague.

The Reddit user also highlighted safety concerns. She explained her colleague left work early one day to focus better at home. Coincidentally, she also left early — but her reason was the unsafe environment in Delhi around the Holi festival.

The woman emphasised that her post was not meant to criticise India or glorify the West. “It’s just the truth of my life and the lives of millions of Delhi people,” she clarified.

Her honest reflection drew supportive comments from other social media users. One person wrote, “Same age, same job, but such different lives. She chooses peace, you deal with safety and money issues.”

Another added, “This is beautifully written. I work in Mumbai and my teammates are in New York. I also think about how our lives are so similar yet so different.”

Some commenters pointed out deeper issues like air quality, personal freedom and the gender pay gap. One woman even shared her experience of moving to Germany, saying, “No feeling can match the feeling of safety and the independence that comes with it.”

The post continues to resonate with many, shedding light on the contrasting realities faced by women across different parts of the world.
